Experience the commemoration of the 213th Anniversary of the Battle of York with special tours and demonstrations. Discover the battle's impacts on the city, this land and its peoples. Join the special Anishinaabeg Defenders of York battlefield tour and learn the stories of Toronto's Indigenous defenders. Excite your imagination with musket and music demonstrations, historic kitchen animations, special presentations and more. Special battlefield tours take place at noon & 2 p.m.
One of the most accomplished violinists of her generation, Lisa Batiashvili performs works by Beethoven, Bartók, Franck, and fellow Georgian Ioseb Bardanashvili, with her compatriot, pianist Giorgi Gigashvili. Described by The Times as "the complete musician," Batiashvili commands her place among the world's foremost artists with performances of great insight and expressive eloquence. The German-based violinist, named Musical America's 2015 Instrumentalist of the Year and also stands among the winners of Italy's prestigious International Accademia Musicale Chigiana Prize. Born in Tbilisi in 2000, Gigashvili's musical career took a decisive turn in April 2019 when he won First Prize at the Vigo International Piano Competition. Please join us! Perfect for families and dog-friendly, all ages are welcome to learn, explore and experience the neighbourhood together. The tour route covers about 2 km over paved pathways and includes major intersections.
A renowned Korean-Canadian cellist and conductor, currently Music Director of the Ann Arbor Symphony. He also served as assistant conductor of the Boston Symphony, resident conductor of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, and associate conductor of the Pittsburgh Symphony. He is the 2022 recipient of The Sir Georg Solti Conducting Award. The Temerty Orchestral Program at The Glenn Gould School, the Royal Conservatory Orchestra is widely regarded as an outstanding ensemble and one of the best training orchestras in North America, with graduates having joined the ranks of the greatest orchestras in the world.
